چکیده
The in vitro activity of a new oral antimicrobial agent, norfloxacin (MK-0366), was compared with those of nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin, co-trimoxazole, trimethoprim, sulfamethoxazole, cinoxacin, tetracycline, ampicillin, carbenicillin, and cephalexin against 628 urinary bacterial isolates. Norfloxacin was the most active antimicrobial agent tested against the gram-negative bacilli. It was less active than a few of the other antimicrobial agents against enterococci and Staphylococcus aureus.

In vitro antibacterial activity of norfloxacin (MK-0366, AM-715) and other agents against gastrointestinal tract pathogens.
A comparison was made of the in vitro activities of norfloxacin and of nine other orally administered antibacterial agents against 180 clinical isolates representing the bacterial species most frequently implicated in infections of the gastrointestinal tract in humans. The 90% minimal inhibitory concentrations showed norfloxacin to be 4, 15, 4, 17, 17, 17, and 33 times more active than the next...

The in vitro activity of Sch 29,482, a new oral beta-lactam antimicrobial agent, was compared with those of norfloxacin, rosoxacin, ampicillin, erythromycin, and tetracycline against 142 Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains. Sch 29,482 was as active as norfloxacin and rosoxacin. Its activity was greater than the other three antimicrobial agents. It inhibited 90% of the isolates, regardless of beta-lac...
متن کاملIn vitro activity of MK-0366 against clinical urinary pathogens including gentamicin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
MK-0366, a new derivative of nalidixic acid, was tested against 250 urinary pathogens including Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This new agent was more active than any of the other antibiotics tested, which included carbenicillin, ampicillin, cephalexin, tetracycline, trimethoprim, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and nalidixic acid. Gentamicin-resistant P. aeru...
متن کاملComparative in vitro activities of ciprofloxacin and other 4-quinolones against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium intracellulare.
The in vitro activity of ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, amifloxacin, and norfloxacin against 22 clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis was evaluated by agar dilution. The MICs for 90% of the isolates of ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin were 0.5 and 1 microgram/ml, respectively. Amifloxacin and norfloxacin were less active. The MICs for 90% of the isolates of ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin against 2...
متن کاملAntibacterial activity of norfloxacin in the gastrointestinal tracts of rats.
The capacities of norfloxacin (MK-0366) and neomycin to reduce the numbers of bacteria in the gastrointestinal tracts of rats were evaluated. Results of a 3-day treatment with norfloxacin were compared with those of a 3-day treatment with neomycin. Both drugs significantly decreased gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Norfloxacin effected a significantly greater reduction in numbers of gr...
